Exhibiting alongside Do Not Touch, the burgeoning Manchester fashion brand, we found going a little slow, (hopefully not mistakenly) put down to a combination of the weather and the couple of weeks still to go to the mad, last ditch scramble for Xmas presents.

Still the acid test was whether we sold anything and luckily we both managed to sell a few items, so that was a result. Thank you to those of you who found the time to brave the weather and to part with your hard earned pennies. We hope you really enjoy your purchases, or those you bought them for do so.

Some good lessons will be learned from the first attempt at doing a Print Fair and hopefully the next time one pops up, the sun will find a way of breaking through our beloved grey skies and the rain will hold off for one day at least!!!!

Taking place at Night & Day this Sunday, the 11th from 12am to 5pm for all design, illustration, arts and crafts enthusiasts to pop along and sample what Manchester’s creatives can produce for your consumption. St. Huro will be exhibiting (as introduced in my previous blog) along with Do Not Touch (Manchester clothing label) and a number of other excellent practitioners.

Merry Christmas everybody!

I had the fortune of seeing a real Hip Hop gig this Saturday just gone, at The Deaf Institute. The Seattle based collective, came, saw and tore the club up. Simple and true to the foundations of the music and artform, the set was simple, with just a simple decks set up (or Mac and beat machine) and percussion complete with the lyrics and presence of the group on stage, posturing and spitting. It was great to see a Hip Hop gig that wasn’t too jazzy and that let the music do the talking and it most certainly delivered, with some.

Watched the charming Lars and The Real Girl at the weekend and found it absolutely excellent. It was a case of taking a calculated risk as it was a birthday gift for the Wife, thinking Ryan Gosling is in it, she will like it for that reason alone! I associate him with mainly independent flicks, having watched him mainly in them than the more hollywood films creeping into his catalogue.

The film really caught us both, and kept impressing throughout, tackling the issue of ‘mental health and illness’ very sensitively and in a very heart warming manner. Central to the film was Lars and his relationship with his family, and the sense of loss that he and his only surviving blood relative, his Brother have. A character that has learnt to retreat into himself and cover any inadequacies by keeping a decent distance from the attempts of his Sister-in-law to break down his cloak of invisibility.

Gosling again impressed with the way he created and crafted his performance in the role, with nervous twitches and  an aloof but warm, loving persona and before his Hollywood-esque buffing up and clean shaven approach, sported a very envious moustache, an improvement on the one I am currently parading around with.

The love of his family, his community and the Psychologist/Doctor kept suprising us throughout the film and was completed by Lars’ realisation of his feelings for the real girl who had been there all along.

Thoroughly enjoyable!

They all, bar Bridget Riley’s grossly offend me! Rachel Whiteread should be ashamed to call herself an Artist with this effort!

It is one thing to enlist the perceived, and most obvious of, the cream of British Art to do them but to then allow such a horrendous batch of trite is an absolute abomination!

Well done again to the people overseeing this hugely significant (somewhat shambolic) event for showing our creative landscape to be dominated by people who choose the most obvious, and pompous crap, that is to be classed as British Art.

I am appalled!
